New JAMB CAPS Admission Status Explained

Many 2026 admission seekers are seeing unfamiliar updates on their JAMB CAPS profiles. Does “Proposed for Admission” mean you have gained admission? What should you do if your status says “Admission in Progress”? OGB Admission Hub explains each stage. Checking JAMB CAPS can be stressful, especially when a status changes without an admission letter appearing immediately. The important thing to understand is that admission passes through several stages involving your institution and JAMB. A positive update is encouraging, but your admission is confirmed only when JAMB approves the offer and CAPS displays “Admitted.” JAMB has reminded candidates that a status may change while an application is still being processed. What each JAMB CAPS status means StatusMeaningWhat the candidate should do Not Admitted No admission offer has been approved for you yet. It does not automatically mean you have lost your chance. Keep checking CAPS and your institution’s official admission updates. Proposed for Admission Your institution’s admission officer has put your name forward. The proposal still needs further approval. Check your details and continue monitoring CAPS. Do not treat it as a final offer. Recommended The proposed admission has moved through the institution’s recommendation stage but still requires JAMB’s decision. Wait for JAMB’s approval. Do not pay anyone who claims they can “release” it. Admission in Progress Your application is undergoing approval. It may be awaiting your institution head’s recommendation or JAMB’s approval. Keep checking. This status does not guarantee admission. Admitted JAMB has approved an admission offer, which you can review on CAPS. Confirm the institution and course, then follow the available instructions to accept or reject the offer. JAMB’s CAPS system allows an institution’s admission officer and head of institution to perform their respective roles before an offer reaches the candidate. JAMB also checks recommendations before approving admissions. That is why “Proposed” and “Recommended” should not be confused with “Admitted.” Does “Admission in Progress” mean I will be admitted? No. It means the process has not finished. An institution may have proposed or recommended you, but JAMB can still withhold approval if the applicable admission requirements have not been met. Keep an eye on your profile rather than announcing your admission based on this status alone. What should you check while waiting? First, confirm that your O’Level results are uploaded to JAMB’s portal . JAMB states that an institution’s recommendation will not be considered if a candidate who registered with awaiting results has not uploaded them. Also check the course and institution shown on your profile and follow any genuine screening instructions issued by your school. To review your status, visit the official JAMB e-Facility portal , sign in with your own account and open the admission or CAPS service available on your dashboard. You can also monitor your institution’s official portal. Keep your login details private; JAMB advises candidates not to give their passwords to a centre or another person. When should you accept or reject admission? Wait until an actual offer has been approved and presented to you . Read the institution and course carefully before making a decision. If you accept an offer, follow the instructions on your JAMB profile and your institution’s portal for the next steps, including your admission letter when it becomes available. JAMB describes CAPS as the official channel for processing and confirming admissions. OGB Admission Hub advice: Proposed is a promising step; Recommended means the application has moved further; Admission in Progress means approval is still pending; and Admitted is the confirmation to look for. Check your CAPS regularly, verify your documents and rely on official JAMB and school channels. Planning your admission strategy while you wait?
